Gold and Green (Of real blood and sacrifices )

The following poem is dedicated to the 132 children that were senselessly murdered in cold blood on sixteenth december, 2014 on the grounds of Army Public School Peshawar, in Pakistan by terrorirsts who had barricaded the school from the inside. 131 boys and one six year old girl, by name of Khaula, laid there lives down at this school at the hands of poeple who came with only one objective, to shoot on sight without mercy.

Most boys had just reached their prime, ranging from twelve to eighteen years old. Its been a year since then, just last wednesday we had vigils all over the place and ceremonies to pay a glorious tribute to them. But really, a few days ago, a woman’s speech on the topic really shook me. She gave me a vivid picture of what the battle was like, it is hard to understand their loss, their immense trauma until you put yourself in their shoes. Without further ado:

You are the sun, forever smiling,

Your eyes are  bright stars,

that will grin for all eternity,

You are the moon, with your silver glow,

You shall never evanesce,

Even if this green and gold you wear,

is drowning in the crimson,

Even when your blood,

is not racing with life as it used to,

Even when your lovley bones,

Are still frozen amidst , these fields of heather,

Even if you lie still,

Next to the tattered leaves of your,

text books,

you lie in pools of,

blood, No!

you are oozing passion, patriostism,

Realize that the existence of such,

valour, valiance,

Never dies, ever,

God gave you wings, and now,

You watch over us,

with the emblem of your,

homeland, your school, your family,

embossed on your breast,

We call them children,

but really with the guns,

and the bullets, and grenades,

they have transcended humanity,

these martyrs, they smile in the faces of,

those who they saved,

at the cost of their lives,

In the night you,

sing, A glorious birdsong of,

A hundrend and thrity two pure souls,

You are not drops in the ocean,

The ocean is a mere drop in,

Your fathomless hearts,

This green and gold you wear,

This fire that masks your eyes,

This trauma that loiters,

ambles uselessly in the clenching of your jaw,

Let it burn like midnight oil,

quickly and effectiveley,

Again you strap your boots closed,

Even they are full of cold blood,

And you kiss your mothers,

Goodbye, you head off,

for yet another day of war,

Adieu! mother,

They grin, with the next sunrise,

We are laying, down,

Our bodies, are we not,

Born equal in this world,

They chant, then why do,

You find this need, for damage,

Have you not been taught about,

The fantastic grossness,

Of this slaughter,

But for every candle we light,

For every word we read,

We, in our own way are fighting back,

With much greater courage and grace,

We are made of green and gold,

Green for freedom,

Gold for greatness,

Because now we know,

and in good time so shall you,

Besides the one thirty two children that laid down their lives as the ultimate sacrifice, nine staff members and six soldiers were martyred in the operation launched launched to recover the school. All the terrorists were either killed or committed suicide. Their accomplices were subsequently punished. Any person who tried to help the students was tortured and killed. A young Mrs. Tariq tried to evacuate as many students as possible but she got caught and was burnt alive. This is a wake up call for all of humanity ,that the massacre of so many people in a matter of hours, that we must work together.
